Darwyn Cooke was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on November 16, 1962. He was an illustrator of numerous heroes in the DC universe. He began as an animator on two key cartoon series in the 1990s: Batman: The Animated Series and Superman: The Animated Series, before joining the print medium. His mostra'n més breakthrough performance in print came with Batman: Ego, which was published in 2000. He won the 2006 Eisner Award for Best Single Issue for his work on DC's Solo #5 and also was recognized five times by the Joe Shuster Awards for achievement by Canadian comic book creators. I have a hard time with noir stories. The conventions and general plot concepts just do nothing for me. This was no different, but Darwin Cooke’s artwork was, as always, great!
Good book. I liked Cooke's art a lot more here than I did in New Frontier vol 1. The story seems a little thin - I wonder if it unfolds a little slower in the novel.
To be honest, I think this would be a 3.5* book. But the star ratings are pretty arbitrary anyway.

Didn't get really get on with this. Maybe I don't know enough of the
relevant background (I'm more of a Marvel Zombie, never feeling that close to
the Distinguished Competition). But... I found the writing a bit
disjointed and rather ponderous. The art has its moments, but
honestly not really enough (and it also has its low points).
Will try to pick up volume 2, just to see if it improves.
