Cover image is rotated

Today I imported some book covers that changed its position after imported. If you look at the 1st two images you will see they have rotated. Yet the image that I imported from my desktop was normal. I searched for a rotating button to correct but didn't find one. How do you correct this or prevent it from happening in the first place? Thanks for help!

LT does not rotate images. Most digital cameras have a landscape default, but then add rotate information if you take a picture in portrait. LT is not set up to use that (it's old code from before this was common.) To get your picture to show correctly you need to either really rotate the image in an external program OR Take the picture in landscape and then crop it.

Wow thank you for that helpful info. I will try the procedure you suggest! Georgia

Well, the above instructions worked for 2 of my covers but not the third. I feel I did it the same way and don't know why didn't work. I was thinking I should totally delete cover and restart with new image. But I can't figure how to totally delete a cover from a record. Any thoughts? Thanks, Georgia

Just stop using it. If nobody is using an image it will eventually disappear.

Martha Jeanne,
What do you mean by statement that image will disappear if not used? I hope that the covers that I have imported will stay as long as catalog on Tinycat. I so appreciate all your help! Thank you, Georgia

I think she means that if you upload a cover on some book on LT and then upload another and don't use the first (and nobody else uses it either), eventually it will go away. You don't have to fear for any covers you've uploaded and use.

Member covers that you are using in your catalogue will not disappear whether or not you are the person who uploaded them. Amazon covers can change or disappear if Amazon changes the image they use for that ISBN.

By 'using' we mean have said that that is the cover for a book. It doesn't matter whether you ever look at it.

I had the same rotation problem & tried several different times; they are still sideways. Thanks for comment #1. I'll try, try again! Verna

Try rotating the image from the original device where you took the photo/s before uploading them to LT. That should help. (See >2 MarthaJeanne: also.)

I tried rotating the image thru Snapseed as you suggested even tho it looked fine on my phone. Nothing seems to help. I've also tried to take it landscape but that doesn't work either. My phone .(Android) is about 2 yrs old --LG tech 21. I do appreciate your help. If you think of anything else, please let me know. In the meantime... LT works beautifully in most areas. I am amazed! If you took the image with your phone, you need to rotate the image on your phone before uploading it anywhere else. Can you try that and see how it goes?

It really depends on how the software rotates the image. Some software actually rotates the pixel data. Other software (most, actually) just change a single bit of information in the meta data of the file. Our cover code ignores that bit. It's something that needs to be fixed. I can't give you a timeline on it though. All of my efforts are for LT2 right now and I'm the developer most likely to fix the image code.

Every month I have to go in and re-add covers that have disappeared from my books. I just finished adding 60 covers that had "disappeared" from my book catalog.

>14 Rich_B: That's the risk you take when you use Amazon covers.

>15 MarthaJeanne: >14 Rich_B: Exactly the reason using Am**on for anything is never allowed in our library! They also have a terrible sloppiness in using correct ISBN numbers - and even changing them randomly.

Since this topic was written we have discovered that editing your image before uploading it usually takes care of the rotating issue. It can just be a very small crop.
