Why do some animals fly? How can they stay up in the air? Do feathers help flight?

=========

As young readers explore the wonders of animal flight, they learn about taking off, landing, gliding, soaring, and zooming. They learn about bats and their nocturnal adventures; they discover flying insects, nature’s helicopters, and butterfly flight.

The mysteries of flight in the animal world, complete with both drawings and photographs, are sure to engage the young reader as they learn about the world around them.

Highly recommended. ( )

I found this short nonfiction book to be of great insight to future aerodynamic or fluid dynamic engineers. It is a short (32 page) book explaining how birds and insects fly. It is very easy to understand and has beautiful pictures. Many bird or bug books do not primarily focus on flight which I found enlightening that this one does. Engaging kids in physics early on is in my opinion the gold standard for science-based learning.

Its always nice to find childrens books that still teach me new things, I usually stray away from books that have the word science on the front, which I was curious about this one but to my surprise when I opened it and started to read about flying frogs and lizards that live around the world I found myself entranced. If this book can bring in someone like me who has always despised the sciences than I applaud it, it is a very interesting and colorful book which will keep the attention of even non-believers like myself. I loved the real pictures because it makes it real to the reader and the wheels start turning in their brain because of it.

This book was extremely interesting. I dont know if it was appropriate for children because it talks about complex stuff like the physics of flight. It explains it in an understandable way but I can't really see a student fulling grasping its concepts. ( )
