It is a year in the life of Kaya, a Perce Nez indian girl, living in 1764. White men are heard of, but do not appear or play any role in this story. What I like about the Kaya story is all the information about life in the tribe comes in naturally and as part of describing her milieu, instead of being dry and like a lesson. The story has a lot of action (she gets kidnapped by another tribe, she escapes, she is a great rider and rescues a horse during a firestorm, tames a wild dog, ...). The dynamics within the tribe are also quite interesting. For a nine-year-old girl, it would hold a lot of interest. The illustrations are superb, very detailed (reminiscent of N.C. Wyeth illustrations) and add a lot to the reading of the story. Highly recommended for 8-10 year olds. ( ) Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
Kaya's six-book series is bound in one volume. Includes stories set in 1764 about a Nez Perce Indian girl, living who dreams of becoming a leader for her people. "When her courage is tested, she draws strength from her family, the legends her elders tell, and the bold warrior woman who is her hero."-- Cover, p.4. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
