This is a cute book that follows Bert and his dog Bert through different activities. Each chapter presents a new challenge for Bert. It is an easy read, so it should be appropriate for preschool up to first grade.

This was not my favorite. Bert and everyone else in the book is called Bert, and he is a bit of a doofus (it took me about a third of the way into the book to realize he's supposed to be an adult). Charming for little ones to have read out loud to them, as it is "interactive."

Bert has grown up but he's still as daft as ever. Kiddos will find his antics quite silly, such as naming his dog "Bert" as well. I was a bit shocked to discover that Bert's married and has a child - the last page shows him in bed with his wife (poor woman!).

a. Summary: Great early reader about Bert. Most of the characters are named Bert. It is very funny how Bert discovers all the people and animals that share the same name. Bert eats chips, loses his dog, finds his dog and heads off to bed.
b. Review: Good early reader. It has funny aspects and a twist in the end. A lot of content within a short book. The art was a whispy color pencil style was a nice touch.
c. School Use: Students could write a short paragraph or story about other people or animals that share the same name. If they cannot think of anyone, have them create a fictional character.

Signed by Ahlberg and Briggs, this book doesn't take long to read - not as long as it takes to compile this entry. Excellent Briggs illustrations, some reminiscent of The Man and When the Wind Blows. ( )
