This is a fun story about a classroom pet hamster and his escape. This story has great illustrations to keep younger children interested and engaged but the humor and references may be better suited for older students. This could be a great book for students who need more encouragement to read. ( )

A classroom pet Hamster named George Washington has been stuck in a cage for a long time. At the end of one school day, GW wants to escape from his cage to return to his normal life. GW eventually breaks out his cage and attempts to rescue his other friends that are imprisoned. GW friends barry the bunny and biter the guinea pig is very content with being imprisoned, but GW finally convinces them to escape with him. As the imprisoned pets attempt to escape from the school, their plans are interfered by harriet, the fourth-grade mouse. Harriet forms an army that include the fifth-grade snake and ten other mices to prevent the other pets from escaping. A war breaks out between to groups, which causes GW group to lose the first war and leads them to plan out a even better strategy to escape. GW group finally conquered their quest. This book is great for upper grade levels such as 3rd. This book relates various historical backgrounds such as characters and wars. Also this book can help third grades overcome difficult obstacle and ways to plan out strategies to either cope or exceed. ( )

This was a really cute story with a lot of cute illustrations. This book would be good to use in a kindergarten or firstgrade classroom purely as an entertainment tool. There is a lot of aspects of the book that are good for holding a childs attention. Overall, it was a cute book. ( )
