Francie and her pregnant mom are driving home from Grandma's in the heavy rain. When they're still far from home, they stop for a picnic. As the car windows fog up, Francie spells out her name, "Daddy" and "Mom," and leaves one space free for her soon-to-be baby sister.

This book was very sweet and enjoyable. It is a perfect read for expecting parents and for a child that are going to be a sibling. In this book, it is raining very hard on the drive Francie and her pregnant mom are making back from her grandmother's. While driving home, they stop for a picnic, write on their windows, and brainstorm about ideas for the new baby sisters name. I think any child can relate to this book because the babies name is something a child always wonders about their future sibling. ( )

A beautiful tale of a child waiting exciting for her younger sibling to be born. Want to meet, play and get to know her sibling. ( )

Driving home from Grandma's in the rain, young Francie thinks about her as-yet-unborn baby sister, and wonders what her name will be. She writes her own name, and that of her parents, on the foggy insides of the car windows - but what should she write for the baby? Stopping to let the rain subside, she and her mother enjoy a brief meal. Later, while stopping for gas, inspiration strikes, and a name is chosen...

Australian author/artist Bob Graham seems to specialize in a certain kind of understated but deeply moving tale - How to Heal a Broken Wing and Vanilla Ice Cream amongst them - stories with a real sense of humanity to them. Home In the Rain is another example, taking the classic new sibling story, and playing it out against the backdrop of a car ride and a rain storm. The result is a narrative that feels both ordinary and extraordinary, all at the same time, just as life does. The artwork, done in ink and watercolor, is vintage Graham, humorous and heartwarming at the same time. Recommended to anyone looking for appealing new sibling stories, as well as to all Bob Graham fans. ( )
