It describes how the child experiences life, parties etc. Furthermore, it shows when children are listening secretely to their parents. In consequence, many questions come up. The protagonist's cousin dies during the war which also leads to many questions. A nice book which shows in a careful way the situation before World War II. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

The latest addition to the Newbery Honour award-winning 26 Fairmount Avenue series. World War II is raging in Europe, and Tomie finds that life has changed in many ways. Now he has to wear an extra sweater to school because they're trying to conserve coal. Then tragedy brings the war home to the dePaola family, and all Tomie can do is ask 'Why?' Just as he did in I'm Still Scared, the first instalment of The War Years, Tomie dePaola touchingly illuminates the emotional confusion of a child's life during wartime. This book would be great for students with family over seas if they are having a hard time it might be a good talking point. This would also be a great way to help students understand what others may be going through.
This would be great for grades 3 to 5.
