In the 1600s the Farman family Thomas, Mary, and Ralph traveled to the village of Ipswich. The names of the characters in this book were by accident names of real pilgrims who came from England. There is no real point of view in this story, it is more of a book of poetry. It describes the journey, the issues they dealt with and what it was like coming to America to settle. It was well written, rhyming poetry picture book. ( ) It's very interesting the way this book it written. Not every four line verse has an ABCB rhyme but quite a few do and that's incredible. It tells a story while keeping a certain rhythm. The illustrations have to tell a lot about this books and I believe they capture what they intended to. It tells the story in more ways than the words. And you have to when so little words are written. It was a little difficult to keep up with the plot because I was reading it like a poem and I read stories and poetry slightly different. A book written in poetry about a family sailing to the colonies from London. The illustrations perfectly correlate with the rhythm and rhyme in each poem. It will help kids visualize the hardships that families traveling overseas had to endure. This would be a perfect book to read about Thanksgiving time.
