Lish McBride's Hold Me Closer Necromancer is about a young lad named Sam who has the unfortunate luck of being a target of the cities most powerful necromancer Douglas...why? Because Sam has a little bit of the necromancer gene on show and may be a threat. After receiving a morbid message from the dead Sam sees advice and a way out of the deal put to him, either become an apprentice for Douglas or die. Needless to say Sam ends up becoming Douglas's apprentice and learns a thing or two on the way. When I picked this book to read it was because I read reviews of how hilarious it was, and whilst it was a enjoyable read I didn't laugh more than a couple of times [and I have a warped humor.] I found the read a little over the top and at times felt like the humor was forced. I did like the story line and found once I got past the first few chapters that the book did become less of a drag. Overall I enjoyed this book but i wouldn't say it was an exciting funny read, but different yes. The blurb to the second one sounds more promising and I wouldn't mind finding out more about that strange crow that keeps lingering around too. I found this story to be highly entertaining. All of the characters are fun and just snarky enough to keep the humor up which keeps the plot from getting bogged down into what could have pretty, erm, grim territory, given the subject matter. I like Sam, short for Samhain (pronounced sah-win which is Irish for end of summer) Corvis LaCroix, the young necromancer in question. He's in his early twenties, but aside from getting into trouble for riding his skateboard in the wrong places, pretty responsible and sensible. He's got great friends too. His life is going on pretty well until the day a dangerous man named Douglas walks into Plumpy's, the place Sam works. Things go from boring to weird and dangerous in a heartbeat and Sam suddenly finds he's the center of attention for a bunch of people he never knew existed before. I will definitely read the next book in the series. Hold Me Closer, Necromancer is a fantasy, horror, and supernatural book. I thought that the main character, Sam was very interesting. He finds out that as the title suggests he is a necromancer. This plot is something that I do not see very often as it can come off as quite dark. However, Lish McBride keeps it light with comedic moments, a very surprised main character who is learning things about his powers with the reader, and good action. A good way of seeing this book is like if The Lightning Thief was for a slightly older reader, who isn't afraid of a few scary situations. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

There's really nothing new in this book, but it still feels remarkably fresh and entertaining ( )
