Yordan Yovkov (1880–1937)

Yovkov wrote poems, short stories, novels, and plays. Most of his poetically tinged stories and novels are set in Dobruja, a region lost to Rumania after World War I, where he was a teacher. One of his best works is the novel The Farmstead at the Frontier (1934). The best prose craftsman in modern mostra'n més Bulgarian literature, Yovkov filtered the materials provided by real life through his memory to produce extraordinarily delicate small masterpieces. His most characteristic hero is the impractical daydreamer, incapable of dealing with the real world.
