Ashley Abercrombie

If you're looking for a read that will give you an opportunity to refuse to engage in many recent struggles in our crazy world, this book is not for you. If, however, you're ready to stand up and love those you may personally disagree with, regardless of if you will ever see eye to eye, then hurry out and get "Love Is the Resistance!"

Abercrombie is a consistent voice for change and her previous book, "Rise of the Truth Teller" snuck up on me and changed my life. I have followed her since and was excited to see another book that seemed just as timely and relevant as the last. With true stories of those who have been left in the wake of cancel culture to those who felt canceling someone was warranted in their eyes, most of these stories get equal time. You must see from another's perspective in order to truly understand their "hows" and "whys."

Abercrombie speaks to the reader as a friend who just wants everyone to remember the simple reminder from Scripture: Love your neighbor as yourself. Even the ones who you don't agree with. Even the ones who have hurt you. But she's not advising being a doormat, either. Abercrombie puts her work gloves on and encourages, admonishes and uplifts in this book about resolving (as much as it depends on you) conflict.

I continue to enjoy and be challenged by Abercrombie's work and can't wait to read more. This would be an excellent starting point for a book discussion group to dive in to. Every chapter has a closing section with Attitudes/ Affirmations/Reflections and Techniques that the reader can sift through for greater understanding. Isn't that what we all want, anyway? Well, this was a book that snuck up on me! Ashley Abercrombie is a podcaster, author, non profit board member, mom and co-pastor of a multicultural church in Manhattan. I haven't read any of her prior work before reading her upcoming book, "Rise of the Truth Teller," but I was moved, challenged and encouraged by it!
I couldn't put the book down once I began. Abercrombie calls us to own our stories, tell them honestly and walk forward in that truth. Through sharing her life story, her challenges and frustrations, Abercrombie crafts a thoughtful, heart tugging book that at once had me laughing and in tears the next moment. She also calls you out in a way that hits right to your heart.

I have so many quotes I loved in the book that I exhausted almost an entire pack of highlighter flags! This book would be a great one to read with a friend to meet and discuss together, or in a small group to work through, a few chapters at a time.

Be forewarned--you will not be able to hang on to old habits and cling to that which isn't healthy after reading this book. You will be called forth to rise, walk with your head held high and serve others for our King. If you're not sure where to start, "Rise of The Truth Teller" is a great jumping off point for a new perspective on following Jesus and what He stood for.

This book!!! Ashley tells it like it is and at the same time gives you specific ways to make changes.... Each chapter ends with space to really dig deep and think. I love books like this that give the reader advice and resources along with telling us their truth. I love her transparency about her own struggle and how she is also working through these steps to get to her own truth. A book that the author lives is more than just a how to, but a "I'm living it and you can too." None of this advice is out of reach. I'm a new follower of Ashley's and assumed this would be another book to add to my stacks after finishing, but after noting and high lighting and marking pages - this book with stick by my bedside. I know readers who need this book; and they can and will RISE!
