Jason Adair

Each opening has a bright picture by Jason Adair, a fair bit of English text to describe the picture clearly and boldly presented, and a single Ojibwe number word in smaller font with pronunciation. Example: "3 huge herons looking at the grey mountains. niswi ... nee-swih" I was really hoping for more Ojibwe. Or less English. It's a concept book for animal names, colours, and numbers in English. I know Ojibwe's complex grammar makes the colour names change form according to grammatical rules, but still. I would have liked more balance between the languages.

Nonetheless, the book is good value and I'm glad to have it. Ojibwe numbers take a lot of learning and this is an enjoyable way to introduce them.… (més)
