Edward A. Allen (1843–1922)

Old as this is I am discovering that the short biographies and excepts from publications of well known literary figures,largely English and American are good introductions. But the print is small, my volume dusty and I was just about to pitch it when I came across this short letter or essay from Horace Walpole about American conflict written 1775. (Americans like me read about him in American history, but don't take in that much, usually.}

Walpole predicts that his side will in the end lose then concludes with this ironic sentence that ultimately proved true

"Well , we had better have gone on robbing the Indies. It was a more lucrative trade"

Oh,and one plus for
Vol 10, there are cumulative indexes to all 10 volumes, one chronological and one alphabetical.
No, this is a keeper.… (més)
