What an adorable book! Mr. Daniel’s Farm by author Grace Allen is a children’s book with a focus on move and change. The book begins with Mr. Daniel, a hard-working lawyer who is told by his doctor to get away from the stress of business life. Mr. Daniel moves to a farm with his wife Ms. Joanne, and from there, they meet some new animal friends. First, Babe the dog becomes part of the adventure and a new “farm friend,” then other animals as well: Trigger the horse, Arnold the white pig, Irene the sheep, and new puppies, too. Mr. Daniel and Ms. Joanne have a full and cozy farmhouse, which makes them happy.
What I liked best about Mr. Daniel’s Farm is that it is an easy way to introduce children to the concept of positive change. While at first it might seem like moving to a new environment with new kinds of “people” would be difficult, it turns out that everyone is happy and everyone loves the new experience. Author Grace Allen puts a positive spin on the concept of change, and the animals help with this point, reminding the child reader of happiness and comfort. In addition, the illustrations in Mr. Daniel’s Farm add much to the story and should be cherished by young readers. I would recommend the book to parents of young children experiencing major change, or any parent who wishes to provide a young child with an adorable story of life on the farm and positive outlooks on new experiences.… (més)
