Iris Apfel : accidental icon : musings of a… de Iris Barrel Apfel
she's so incredibly stylish and i really do respect that but everything she says in her book makes me feel like she would be mostly unpleasant to be around. i think all iconic and brassy broads are somewhat entitled and lacking self-awareness but hoo boy is it more fun to watch than to read
Iris Apfel started off in fashion and moved into high-end interior decor and reproducing antique textiles. She cultivated an unusual and fabulous style of her own, and in later life became an icon, inspiration for (and co-creator of) exhibitions, and even involved in devising university fashion courses.
This book is a series of short articles- autobiographical narratives, photos of her early life, and of her current 'looks', thoughts on everything from secrets of a happy marriage to style. And padded out with lots of pretty pages with stylized artwork and just a motto : "Colour can raise the dead" etc.
As it's not a long book anyway (171p) and a fair bit is given up to cute images (I would've preferred more photos of Ms Apfel's outfits) I would give it *3. Quite interesting, gives you a background to her life and career, would make a nice gift, but glad I only borrowed it from library!… (més)
