These all Short stories and I’m short of words. So, I’ll just tell you in simple and shortest way my views on this book.

They were brilliant and unique. Right from the writing to the concept, I haven’t come across this type of short stories till now. The stories contain different theme and characters, their psychologies, and life experiences. In each story, when you reach to the, it keep you thinking about the story what you just read and hit with deep meaning. All stories were fictional and yet felt real. You can find such cases happening, not fully but somewhat, around you in every day’s life. They were nicely written. All stories are combination of humor, dark human traits, and tragedy.

My favorite stories in the book were- La Tristesse Des Herissons, Sharing the Hostage, Strings, and Einstein’s Beach House were touching.

When you find out, after years of marriage, your wife is cheating on you, what you will do? Normal sane person will argue with wife or file divorce? Well, here the person is psychopath. Dr. Balint, successful cardiologist, a good son, and father of two daughters. He is nice person and content in life. When finds out his wife is having an affair with his colleague, he plans to murder his wife’s lover to save his marriage. And to cover it series of murders and turns to serial killer wearing ‘the mask of sanity’.

This book solely focus on the thought process of a psychopath. That was the best thing of the book. No nonsense details of affairs and no gross details of murders. To the point story about two face life of Balint- a heartless, remorseless killer masked by ethical cardiologist - and his point of views and justifications for murders. I loved writing and story of the book, it’s brilliant. I liked witty lines in the book which were great relief during the constant tension of the book. No single character is likable, they were interesting but not likable. Story is steady paced and thrilling.

There could be so many twist in book. At some point I started thinking that Balint is wrong about his wife or Sugarman. But there is no mystery or twist and still this book made me curious at every point- When he is going to kill his victim and how, what is going to happen in the end, whether he will end up in jail or not, will he ever stop killing!

End of the book was suspenseful. Is author writing a sequel of the book? If so, I really want to read it.

If you are interested in psychology thriller and want a change from typical looking psychopath, this book is for you.

I just finished reading this book, and I’m left with some conflicting emotions. I must preface this by saying that I lost my mom and sister to suicide, so reading this was an interesting perspective (though Millard lived a hell of a lot longer than the two of them). I was so hoping for a happy ending, but perhaps the ending WAS happy, to Millard at least. Part of me feels a bit numb now, which admittedly threw me for an emotional loop. All in all, this was definitely an interesting read.

I thought this would be full of truly challenging dilemmas that would make me think. As a longtime viewer of SVU and other procedurals, and a lifelong reader of nonfiction, I didn't find these 'dilemmas' to be very thought provoking at all. (I'm also a devout Christian and I believe the Bible clears up the gray areas in many of these situations.)

In addition, I thought that the author was going to present each situation without bias, but even though he doesn't come right out and say "This is what I think," the way he words each scenario makes it clear where he stands on many of the issues. (He believes that overpopulation is a real problem, and references Darwinian evolutionary theory as fact.)

There was one particular situation I feel he really failed to present without bias, which was a Christian doctor refusing reproductive services to an LGBTQ couple due to religious objections. The issue was framed as one of LGBTQ rights and religious rights in this scenario were more or less ignored.

Lastly, I just tired of his cutesy fake names for the people in his scenarios: Ms. Ratched, Dr. Death, Senator Cheapside, etc.

Certainly, if someone has not thought about these issues before, the scenarios will provoke discussion. But I just didn't love this read.
