This book is simply fabulous!!! I love it how it is both concise, nicely organized and each chapter speaks about a very likely scenario whehere something can go wrong in the operating room. In Anesthesia, things can go bad real fast, and knowing how to not only properly respond to a bad and unexpected situation is expected for the job, but the benchmark between being an alsorand anesthesiologist to the exception is when you can anticipate 5 steps ahead and prevent a disaster from happening in the first place.

That doesn't demerit anesthesiologists of course, nobody can be certain whether that bread & butter case entering the OR will end up with malignant hyperthermia, and elevation in the ETCO2 values alone could mean a huge array of other issues between a faulty anesthesia machine (including a power failure and central oxygen dispensing error), or a nicked endotracheal tube that requires urgent reintubation.

I like it how the book thinks out of the box and presents a few really unusual scenarios a gigantic array of procedures ranging from neurosurgery to patients with premorbid diseases such as HIV and anesthestic considerations in disseminated cancer (yes, plenty of intravenous anesthetic drugs can trigger cancer cells by inhibiting the immune system).

I cannot recommend this book enough!… (més)
