Jarrette E Aycock (1890–1966)

She was a internationally known evangelist and religious author. Dr. Aycock, author of many religious books, including 'The Nightengale of the Palms,' a bestseller, came to Waco Friday to conduct a revival at the Nazarene Church. The revival was to continue through Sunday, when the evangelist was scheduled to return to Kansas City.

He received a doctor of divinity degree from Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, Okla. He had been in evangelist work, traveling throughout the world, for 30 years. For many years he had been superintendent of the Kansas City District of the Church of the Nazarene.

He was responsible for establishing more than 60 new Nazarene churches as well as founding the nationally known Kansas City, Mo., Rescue Mission. Dr. Aycock was converted more than 50 years ago in a rescue mission. Rev. Lynch said Dr. Aycock had been a 'wanderer' for seven years before his conversion.

His life story was dramatized for radio and entitled 'Unshackled.' The broadcast went to more than 300 radio stations throughout the world. Dr. Aycock had been a resident of Kansas City for about 23 years.
