Let's start from the beginning. Omg, That's Paleo? is written my Julie Bauer, who has a claim to fame on the internet at a blog by the same name, where she writes about here amazing journey with Paleo food and her life. I have been dying to get my hands on a copy of this book, and it was a sheer windfall when I signed up for a new early reviewer program and it was sitting there all shiny and wanting to be read.
This book is just as great as Julie's blog, and I felt like, aside from it being a book/recipe/themed sections format, that I was still reading along on her blog. From the beginning there are personalized notes from Julie everywhere. About things to keep on hand, about substitutions, about little extras on cooking, on spicing, on what to have with a recipe as an additional high point if you have one foot off the paleo wagon, too.
I laughed my way through reading this cookbook, like my best friend was sitting next to me whispering hints, sharing pictures, and telling my what her very favorite things in the world were, and it taught me some very important things:
1) That paleo totally fits in my current eating healthy structure. 2) That I desperately need to get off my tush and try cooking with almond/coconut flour (the pastries, waffles, and muffins that are all amazingly grain-free and fabulous looking are calling my name something hard). 3) That I'm keeping my waffle maker (that I;d been about to throw out for not using on anything but bacon). 4) I definitely need a hard copy of Julie's bible to go next to my stove in the kitchen (with my other favorite cookbooks of the year).
