Lila Greer, Teacher of the Year (The Questioneers) de Andrea Beaty
Blue River Creek's favorite teacher gets her own story: readers learn about her shyness when she was a new student in second grade, and how her teacher made her feel welcome and helped her make friends. As always with this series, the rhyme is perfect, and the message is direct but not preachy. A wonderful addition to the Questioneers series!

Ada tries to bake a birthday cake for her dad, but it comes out wrong - why? Ada dives into the science of baking. After all, "each time you bake, you are conducting a small experiment": ingredients (including a rising agent such as baking powder, baking soda, or yeast) are mixed in a specific order (a reaction, which makes a change) to make a delicious result. Science terms (e.g. chemistry, biology, physics, math) are in bold, and are defined in the text; there is no glossary. Back matter includes simple science experiments, including a recipe for sugar cookies.

I didn't really care for this. I found it repetitive and rather dull. The characters are fine and the plot moves along at a fine pace, but the repetition makes everything feel long and unnecessary for me. I did like the contraption schematics in every chapter though. I also liked the idea of kids going through the iterative process of invention, which I guess aligns with the repetitive nature of the storytelling. It just makes the story less compelling.
