I usually read Jane Blythe’s series in a progressive order, but this time I stepped ahead. I couldn’t help myself. I feel her books can be read as stand alones. The characters appear throughout the books, but each book highlights a couple. Vicious Scars tells Tallulah Russell and Gabriel “Tank” Dawson’s story.

Jane sets the hook early, creating a need to know from the opening pages. An intruder. It wasn’t what I expected, and I love that. Jane is very good at throwing twists and turns throughout her books. There are two story lines in Vicious Scars and we will only learn the results of one, Tallulah and Gabriel’s story.

A kidnapping of a woman in Witness Protection. What? Why would Prey Security feel the need to save someone who has been given a new identity and is being hidden by the U S Marshalls? Well, I’ll tell you. There’s a rat and they are there to, not only save her, but catch the man who has put a million dollar bounty on her head.

At 6%:

Instead of trying to brute force her way out of his hold by thrashing about, which would have been impossible, she immediately put her hand between his legs, grabbed his crotch, and twisted.

Yeah, Jane may love her damsels in distress, but she does not leave them defenseless.

Tallulah carries the sins of her father and has been in foster care since she was three years old. Because of her desire to help those in need, she has put a price on her head. Just once, she would love to have something good in her life. She doesn’t know it yet, but her kidnapper is the man that fits the bill.

We have some light moments, having me nodding my head and smiling. Even in times of darkness, there is light.

Some steamy moments heated up my ereader, but Tallulah and Tank deserve something good in their lives. Even though I knew Jane Blythe would supply it, the road to their happy ever after was not an easy one. Bullets flew, bodies fell, and suspense mounted as we came to the heart pounding conclusion.

A collection of stories for a great cause and I plan to read each one of them but for now I will share my review on Target Lost by Patricia Eddy.

This story blew me away! It is packed full of emotions that will leave the readers breathe less, determined to see what happens, and hoping for a great outcome. Dana and Terry both suffer loss in different ways but no less emotional. They bond in the most unlikely places and are immediately attracted to each other but can’t act on it, then they lose it all. A few years later Dana is still fighting her battles while being strong for her sister and nephew. When hope is dismal things bring Terry back into her life and a little hope as well. Terry and Dana embark on a journey to get back what was lost and they are both so strong that I loved them instantly. I can’t wait for their story to be expanded because I know it will be amazing.… (més)

I have read many, many books by Jane Blythe and have never been disappointed, so adding Lethal Risk to that list was a no brainer. Chock full of romance and danger, I especially loved the addition of Lolly to the mix. I love how the tension and pacing are off and running from the beginning pages. Jane Blythe’s writing fits me so well, I zip through the pages on pins and needles, stopping for some romance now and then. After all, gotta smell those roses, right?

Jane Blythe has the ability to make me believe the characters are real, with her vivid, true to life descriptions. I guess that is why she is able to draw all the feels from me. I fear for the characters, laugh with the characters and they linger long after the book is finished. She approaches each novel with a fresh outlook, often avoiding the pitfalls of romantic suspense.

We begin with the attempted abduction of Asher’s (Mouse’s) daughter, Lolly. Could this have something to do with the organization that Storm Gallagher belonged to? Just because he is no longer a threat, it doesn’t mean there isn’t a bigger plan in motion.

Mouse had only taken his eyes off his daughter for a few seconds. There are people all around, but when he looks for her, she is nowhere to be seen. I think every parent can imagine his panic and desperation. When he sees Lolly with Phoebe Lynch, he doesn’t hesitate to take her down…and their story begins.

Phoebe feels she is being watched and Mouse, along with Prey Security are at her side. No one had any idea of who her psychopathic ex boyfriend really was, but as they learn more about it, the danger rises. His obsession makes Phoebe realize he will do anything to get her back, to make her into the person he believes she should be…for him. The only way out…death.

It’s a small world, and as everything comes together, the romance begins. And Lolly…sweet, precious Lolly. I looked forward to her dialogue that put a smile on my face. Her capacity for love is as big as her personality.

“Did you have someone to hold at night?” Lolly asked.

“No, sweetie.” Lolly’s brow furrowed. “I don’t want you to be alone. Come to my room.” Lolly jumped to her feet, took Phoebe’s hand, and pulled her along after her.

“I brought Baby Kitty,” she told Asher (Mouse), pulling the stuffed animal from her bag. Lolly had insisted that since she had Mrs. Fuzzy to keep her safe at night, Phoebe had to take Baby Kitty home with her to cuddle in bed.

Damn, this woman can write. She still surprises me, when I think it is no longer possible to surprise me, because I have read so many of her books. Her words and her characters speak to me, making a home in my heart. Her stories feel so real…and she has already set the hook for the next book in the series.

Oh man, it’s a cliffhanger, but the next book is available, so, thank you Jane, no waiting.

Of course, that doesn’t last for long when the team has to rescue her again. Having a house full of hunkalicious males does not stop Storm from trying to flush them out. Once he makes up his mind to be there, they do not hesitate to admit their feelings. That is, until his ex wife manipulates a situation. The thing I like about it, Mackenzie did fall for it and run, but she called another Prey operative and had no intention of running alone.

Jane Blythe Is pretty darn good at creating fascinating characters that grab me and don’t let me go. It’s fun to have a gruff, growly teddy Bear be putty in a woman’s hands.

Action packed. Intense danger. Suspense abounds. Even though Mackenzie and Bear have their happy ever after, the series is not over and Prey Security is till on the job.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Lethal Risk by Jane Blythe.
