David Brin is a scientist, writer, and public speaker. He was born in Pasadena, California, on October 9, 1950. Brin attended the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and later earned a doctorate at the University of California. He accepted a position as an engineer at Hughes Aircraft mostra'n més Company. Brin is a former fellow at the California Space Institute and serves on several government and nongovernment advisory committees dealing with issues involved with technological growth. Brin has lectured all over the world on such topics as space flight, ecology, and the search for extraterrestrial life. Brin deals with global warming, the destruction of the ozone layer, and pollution of Earth. His 1987 novel, The Uplift War, received the Hugo Award and the Locus Award. Existență de David Brin

Unconventional first contact story touching a lot of actual or near future issues that humanity could have to deal with. Much more anchored in what might be physically possible than other first contact stories, and follows the situation over a significant period of time allowing the possibility to touch many aspects and situations and see characters in evolution. Due to the size gives a bit the feeling of connected short stories (although the main topics remain central), as some characters appear for short stretches not to be talked again after or development that looked important at some point are set aside. Very enjoyable overall and thought provoking.… (més)

Heaven's Reach de David Brin

Probably enjoyed the previous two books in the trilogy more, but still enjoyed this.

Otherness de David Brin

Probably not quite in the right frame of mind to appreciate this book.
I tend to go short stories because I don't need to concentrate or invest as much as when I read an epic series, but this one required more thought and consideration than I felt like giving.
On which note, I did like Brin's Uplift series.

From this, I most liked The Giving Plague and Ambiguity.
Also the final essay on Otherness
