I have a longer review on my blog where I discuss some of the specific bits that did or did not resonate for me, I don't want to post all that here so I'll share my brief summary review and you can read more here if you want!

SUMMARY REVIEW
I LIKED
- Developing shame resilience is worth examining.
- Illuminated where I run up against shame in my life, and some anecdotes from her participants did strike a cord.
- It’s an easy read.

I DIDN’T LIKE
- Very US American in examples and anecdotes. The UK culture of shame is quite different.
- Much discussion of the struggle of mothers and shame, with the child free shame barely referenced. This triggered a degree of shame in me.
- Not sure how I can action on the findings in this book.

For years, my friends in the neighborhood have been telling me how much they admire and how often then refer to Ms. Brown.
They finally wore down my resistance and I gave Brene Brown a chance.
Know what? I actually found a few commonalities with the author.
In Braving the Wilderness she discusses the rewards of being belonging but also the rewards of carefully having a prolific conversation with those who hold a different belief. I plan to implement her advice when next the opportunity arises.
I’ve already put a hold on my next book by Ms.Brown.

Lots of solid advice and prompts on living a wholehearted, compassionate, and authentic life alongside explorations of self-doubt and shame and how to work on conquering those things. Some of the strongest aspects of this book are Browns encouragements to honor your emotions, talk about them with those closest to you, and give advice on ways you can cultivate the most honest lifestyle for YOU as an individual.
At times Brown becomes a little repetitively vague when she says "I got a bunch of people together and researched xyz topic" without actually explaining how that research was conducted, but the results she shared were mostly either all interesting or thought-provoking, so that saves it a bit. Near the close of her book Brown also veers into the territory of saying "Just go have fun! Don't worry! Dance in your kitchen!" as a way to just ignore stress, which is both a touch ignorant and weirdly fluffy? However, on the whole I see "The Gifts of Imperfection" as a book you could easily read and apply various things in various ways, and leave behind the things that don't serve you, so I think this is a worthwhile read for those seeking books on embracing yourself and building your sense of self-worth.… (més)
