Chapters are obvious as newspaper columns, i.e. they tend to end with an amusing episode, perhaps showing the author at a disadvantage. Basically I'm downrating it because I felt it was too staid, self-promoting. This seems to be written by vacationers, not someone who actually lived in the country. The animals are entertainment, not fellow beings.
I'm about 1/2 way thru and not yet motivated to finish it.

I can't say I was thrilled with this book, but it did keep my interest. Those looking for blood and gore in their zombie apocalypse stories will be disappointed. This is more suspense and thriller than horror.

I haven't decided if I will continue on to the other books.

I really enjoy the mix of the Western and Zombie genres, and this story did not disappoint. But it is more western than gory zombies. Basically, a combination of feuding ranchers, revenge, a stranger riding into town, and a few zombie attacks here and there.

I liked this better than the first story of the Red Dust series, Lost Party. I rounded that one up to a 4-star rating, while this one is solidly worth 4 stars.

However, there are some editing and grammar issues. The phrasing was sometimes awkward, but I think it was more of a British/American dialect issue than sloppy editing.
