This started off as a really sweet romance, but there was eventually some more mature aspects to it. I did really like it, and it wasn't overwhelmingly sexual like other books I've read have been. I wouldn't say it's my favorite romance novel, but it was definitely one of the best written ones I've read.

The characters were relatable and it was hard to dislike them - for the most part. Scarlett's mother annoyed me at times, and I found Arlo sketchy when he was first introduced, but they did redeem themselves. Scarlett was funny, and I loved her attitude. Teague wasn't my favorite male lead in a book, but he wasn't bad; he was funny and could be a really sweet guy.

I loved Hadley and Ronan the most. Their relationship was so cute, and it reminded me a lot of my own relationship with my boyfriend. Hadley was very relatable when it came to loving romance, and I thought it was sweet that Ronan was willing to do everything he could to make sure she felt loved.

As for Scarlett's relationship with Teague, I did find it sweet, but it also felt a bit rushed at times. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but I feel as if I'd have liked their relationship more if it had happened the slightest bit slower. Otherwise, the chemistry was present, so I can't truly complain much about it. With most rushed relationships, there's very little chemistry, if there even is some.

The overall storyline was very interesting. Carley kept things moving fairly well, so there wasn't much time to get bored with the story. When things started slowing down a bit, she added a new twist to keep me engaged. The twists were usually small, so it wasn't annoying nor frustrating to me personally.

The ending was really sweet, and I loved it. I love that everyone in the story got the happiness they deserved.

Helping Her Remember by Kate Carley
Crawford Falls #1

Friends to lovers, second chance romance and secret baby tropes are part and parcel of this first book in a new series. Kelly heads home with her 6 year old son after being away for 7 or so years. She moves in with her mother, worries about seeing her old gang of friends and begins a job at an old folks’ home. Soon after she arrives her old boyfriend shows up wanting to pick up where they left off. She is a bit leery but still has feelings so they begin to date.

This was an okay introduction to a new series though perhaps not as believable as some books of this genre might be. Most of the players of the series are introduced, there is a resolution that ends with a HEA for Kelly and Dylan and the issue of a work place disagreement at the nursing home is handled. I felt, perhaps, that this story was oversimplified with issues glossed over in spots rather than really dealt with in depth. I never understood why Kelly ran away rather than confronting Dylan, why she chose as she did regarding the work situation or how easily the two fell back into one another’s arms. That said, I believe this book may appeal to the YA and NA readers who pick it up.

Thank you to NetGalley and Barclay Publicity for the ARC – This is my honest opinion.
