- Mary Kay Carson is an award-winning children’s nonfiction author. She began her writing career working on the classroom magazine SuperScience at Scholastic in New York City and has been a full-time freelance writer for the past fifteen years. The author has written more than thirty books for young people about wildlife, space, weather, nature, and history. Her recent non-fiction titles include The Bat Scientists; Emi and the Rhino Scientist, about the Cincinnati Zoo's famous rhino mom; Exploring the Solar System, recipient of the 2009 American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Children’s Literature Award; The Wright Brothers for Kids; Inside Tornadoes; and the Far-Out Guide to the Solar System series. The author also gives presentations at schools and libraries about space, animals, history, and writing. Librarians, this is the book you've been waiting for to update your outdated solar system shelf with the latest word on Pluto. Mission to Pluto is comprehensive, covering Pluto's discovery, early observation, and exploration and early science results from New Horizons. It's all wrapped in an exciting narrative about the encounter, featuring the voices of several scientists and engineers from the mission, including Alan Stern, Alice Bowman, and Fran Bagenal. The book does a good job of confining the tiresome planethood debate to a single page, and spending the rest of its 72 pages on the exciting adventure and fantastic science of the New Horizons mission to Pluto...and beyond.… (més)
Some absolutely lovely photos and explanations about Biosphere 2.
This was a good book to read. It had alot of interesting facts about all the different types of storms. It also gave an inside view from a scientist that studies tornadoes and storms.
