A very refreshing young adult novel with an atypical female lead. Katsa is a Graceling, a person born with a special enhanced ability (not a super power persay, as they are more mundane abilities; referred to as a Grace), and evident by having eyes of two different colors. Katsa's Grace is for fighting and her uncle the King uses her as his enforcer. Katsa is a smart woman, can easily beat or kill anyone who comes against her and desires none of the trappings or roles for the women of her country. She can take care of herself, and frequently is the one doing the rescuing. This a good book for young girls, and a good alternative for a genre which can be filled with princesses needing rescuing or focused on marriage.… (més)

Well all I can say is WOW! WOW! WOW! This book was a really nice read. I really enjoyed seeing someones else's POV on the pandemic even if a fictional character. This book took me back to a time that seemed so uncertain. I enjoyed the talk about the elections and how they advocated for voting as this is a young adult book I think it will help with perspective and showing the younger generation how important it is to vote. This book also touched base on a few touchy subjects. I liked the emotional development in our main character. I can't say enough good words about this book. I will be recommending this book to all of my family and friends as well as to anyone who wants a recommendation on a good book. I can't wait for this to come out so my friends and family can read It as well! I think I have found a new author that I really like and enjoy reading. I can't wait for the next book published by this author!… (més)

This is Hava's story, a character you don't see much of in other stories but this time she's the narrator. She's a messy character, not sure about who she is and who she wants to be. It was a bit of a slog occasionally and weighs in a bit at a smidge over 600 pages, She's whiling away the time translating the science notes from previously in the story and then she finds a blue fox who is drugged into insensibility, who turns out to be pregnant and Hava finds something to care for, as well as one of the sailors. She has never really had friends before, people in her life couldn't be trusted, but now she's having to deal with a lot of secrets and lies. She can deal with secrets and lies, and reacts badly sometimes when people show her affection, she's a child that suffered a form of abuse from her father and her mother and her healing isn't going to be easy.

I liked it, there were parts of the slog through the ice and the sailing that honestly dragged but that reflected what the characters were going through too. Hava has an interesting perspective in her brokedness and I found it an interesting read.
