It appears he never lost his genre bending writing style and as an adult progressed to writing other genre mash-ups such as 14 and Robinson Crusoe (The Eerie Adventures of the Lycanthrope). Ex-communication is the third book in the Ex-Heroes series, a combination of dystopian LA, fantasy, horror and just about every genre name. What else would you expect from someone who, at the ripe old age of 19 completed his triple quadruple PhD in English literature, archaeology, quantum physics, and interpretive dance? Okay, we are still questioning the legitimacy of that claim…

BOOKTOPIA CELEBRATION OF AUTHORS FEATURING PETER CLINES, JONATHAN EVISON, RU FREEMAN, CAROLINE LEAVITT, RHONDA RILEY, JAN-PHILIPP SENDKER AND MAGGIE SHIPSTEAD Village Books is hosting Booktopia 2013, a weekend retreat for listeners of Books on the Nightstand, which is about connecting readers with authors, and connecting readers with readers. Although Booktopia retreat registration is full, the community is invited to a free celebration of authors in the Readings Gallery of Village Books. Come listen to these authors talk about their books and writing: Peter Clines, Ex Heroes; Jonathan Evison, The revised fundamentals of caregiving; Ru Freeman, On Sal Mal Lane; Caroline Leavitt, Is this tomorrow; Rhonda Riley, The Enchanted Life of Adam Hope; Jan-Philipp Sendker, The art of hearing heartbeats; and Maggie Shipstead, Seating Arrangements. About the authors: Peter Clines, Ex-Heroes: Peter Clines has written a "superheroes vs. zombies" novel that is original, fun, and incredibly well-told. Much like Ready Player One, this is a novel that goes far beyond the genre into which it was published, and it can be enjoyed by many different types of readers. The heroes in this book are real people with real problems of loss, relationships and fear. Jonathan Evison, The revised fundamentals of caregiving: Down on his luck, Benjamin Benjamin takes a class to learn how to be a caregiver, and finds a job caring for Trev, a 19 year old with muscular dystrophy. Their relationship, and the road trip that they take together, is at the center of the novel, which is by turns tragic and funny. Ru Freeman, On Sal Mal Lane: This is a lush, brilliant novel of childhood in Sri Lanka in the time just before the outbreak of the 26-year Sri Lankan civil war. Ru is the author of the novel, A disobedient girl. Caroline Leavitt, Is this tomorrow: In this, Leavitt's tenth novel, a 12 year-old boy goes missing from a Boston suburb, and this affects an entire community. It is at once a mystery, a family story, and a novel of 1950s suburbia. Leavitt is author of the novel, Pictures of you. Rhonda Riley, The Enchanted Life of Adam Hope: An unconventional and passionately romantic love story that is as breathtaking and wondrous as The Time Traveler's Wife. During World War II, Evelyn Roe is sent to manage the family farm in rural North Carolina, where she finds what she takes to be a badly burned soldier on their property. It quickly becomes clear he is not a man . . . and not normal. Jan-Philipp Sendker, The art of hearing heartbeats: After a successful New York lawyer suddenly disappears without a trace, neither his wife nor his daughter Julia has any idea where he might be, until they find a love letter he wrote many years ago, to a Burmese woman they have never heard of. Maggie Shipstead, Seating Arrangements: A satirical novel about a pre-wedding weekend and all the craziness that weddings bring out in friends and family members, especially when that family is an upper-class old-money New England clan. Location: Street: 1200 11th St City: Bellingham, Province: Washington Postal Code: 98225-7015 Country: United States (afegit de IndieBound)… (més)
