Hmmm. So I was really excited to read this book. I generally love snapshots of people and I loved the idea of following up on a group of people since high school.

What I found was that it got really boring fast.

The first couple of chapters were mildly interesting. I would say that things started to go south for me when he tracked down his old ex-girlfriend. The author's reflections on race and love that came out of that meeting just rubbed me the wrong way... and then -- again and again as he re-met each of the other people in the book - it just felt like this was more about the author's experiences in high school and his experience researching the book than really about the people he profiled.

Eventually I started to skip the author's reflective chapters - that helped a little.

All in all a disappointing read.… (més)
