Yahtzee Croshaw

This is not my typical kind of book at all-- I never would have picked this up on my own and only read it on the recommendation of someone I know. I really liked the idea of this book-- a not-quite-killed NPC in an MMORPG tries to find a way to truly and properly put himself out of his half-dead misery-- but having played very few video games, I don't think I enjoyed this book nearly as much nor got as many of the jokes as an actual gamer would have. I'm quite certain there was a lot that went over my head simply because I'm not sure if I've ever played an MMORPG. The plot is straightforward enough but I never quite got into it, nor did I feel that the characters were all that interesting or well-developed. Much of the dialogue felt really flat or were just set-ups for jokes that I didn't find funny. I'm not sure if this is because I'm just not into games and didn't get the joke or if the book simply isn't that well-written to begin with (I suspect the latter). In any case, I had difficulty enjoying this one and so it gets a low rating from me. Maybe avid gamers will eat this up.… (més)
