Theodore Cross (1924–2010)

This is a beautiful book full of neat pictures. There are pictures and some descriptive information about the places & the birds.
There are some things I wish had been included (or done better) but I think this is a very personal book, by an "amateur" and is based on the author/photographer's interest & knowledge.
The descriptions/details are somewhat repetitive, which is hard to avoid if there are to be individual pieces on each type of bird. But I found myself confused about the differences. For example, there are many species that have long migrations and it seemed like more than one was singled out as the longest. It might have been fun to have a map of the routes so the reader could see them, and see how they compared.
Similarly, the descriptions of the destruction done by predators was very vivid but I ended up wondering how any of the birds survived.
Definitely a book worth looking at & erading.… (més)
