Book Title: Men and Dreams In the Dhauladhar
Author: Kochery C.Shibu
Format: Paperback

Book Title:
The title of the book is ‘Men and Dreams In the Dhauladhar’ is realistic and heartening.

Book Cover:
The cover of the book is a digital image of three guys standing near the peaceful Himalayan range covered with clouds.

Plot:
What if people with different mottos and different opinions meet on the same platform? Will they get mingled and support each other or stand by their rules or opinions and don’t bother the circumstances? This book is about the three personalities who are different from their professions and views.

The story is set in a remote place near the Himalayas. Nanda, Khusru, and Rekha are the three main characters of this story. Nanda is an engineer who comes to construct the dam in the remote location, Khusru is a multi-shaded character who works as labor in the site with a mission. Rekha is a doctor who also works on the site. The lives are connected and the bondage of their characters will become strong. Each one has their own baggage of happy, sad, lovely and thrilling experiences which they carry daily, even the people who are residing at the construction site.

What are the shades of each character? Do they have any past? How is it affecting their current lives? Who is the culprit in this story? Will Nanda be able to complete the construction of the dam on time? What are the issues faced by the residents over there? Well, read this good writing by Kochery C.Shibu.

What I like:
1. The storyline and bringing various characters together made this story a good read
2. The issues of the poor residents are explained very well and it will move the reader.

What I didn’t like:
There are no faults in particular in the story.

Characters:
We can call three characters in the story as protagonists. But Khusru has different shades and it is quite impossible to judge him.

Narration:
The narration could be more interesting so that the reader doesn’t feel unenthusiastic while reading the book as the backdrop stories are quite dragging and unwanted information being added.

Language & Grammar:
A clear language with neat and uncomplicated grammar is used in the book

My Final Verdict:
A good onetime read

This book is mainly about three characters Nanda, Rekha and Khusru. But author has given main importance to the character Nanda, who is silent person and does not indulge much in the things going around. There are many such sentences where local language is used so its preferable only for Indian audience. Author has jumbled up the story introducing many characters which are for short span and the story would have moved ahead without them. The main flaw of the book is ending the character of rekha and khusru abruptly. At some point of time while reading it feels the book is going no where. Its based on mainly building up the dam, phases in construction of dam. I am unable to understand the motive of the author to display through this book, was it about construction of the dam or the possible attack to the dam. Characters in the book are not complete and its difficult to remember all the names as they come and go without any importance.… (més)

Men And Dreams is a story that reflects the truth of the society, with all its flaws and goodness.

The three main characters, Nanda, Rekha and Khusru are well created and have individual personality traits. Their struggles are real, as are they.

The writing style was great, and so was the storyline. It was pretty unique, and I enjoyed delving into the mystique of the Himalayas.

The only thing that made me reduce the rating was, that at times, the tenses kept changing within a paragraph. Being a budding writer and a grammar Nazi, it really bugged me a lot.

Though overall, Men and Dreams was an interesting, heartfelt read and I really enjoyed it!
