David Domine

This book is at its best when describing the architecture of Old Louisville, the largest historic preservation district featuring Victorian buildings in the US. The author is clearly in love with the neighborhood and its gorgeous homes, courts, and parks. As for the ghost stories... Domine seems to be straining to come up with supernatural doings, although a few of the tales are eerie. For Louisvillians like myself the book will have a certain appeal, but beyond that, you'll need to be a dedicated devotee of the spectral to enjoy it.… (més)

My in-laws in Kentucky often give me cookbooks for Christmas, especially Kentucky cookbooks. This one is better than some they have given me. Since I do have access to Kentucky country ham, Kentucky bourbon, and even Kentucky chocolate, I can make many of these delicious sounding recipes. But be warned, many of them involve frying or high amounts of butter, sugar and alcohol. Still most of them have fewer than a dozen ingredients and are actually fairly easy to make. I'm glad to have an update from my go-to Kentucky cookbook, Out of Kentucky Kitchens, by Marion Flexner, 1949.… (més)
