In my teens, I fell in love with theater. I wanted to act. On the stage. I loved the hush of the crowd, the sticky odor of pancake makeup and the dusty resin of wax on the stage floor. I loved to be able to look out over the audience, the flash of glasses reflecting the stage lights. I loved to hear their laughter. But mostly, I loved losing myself in a character made of words. To make that character live and breathe. Now, that is magic.

Douglas Rees Until I was six, I wanted to be a fireman. Between six and twelve, I wanted to be a paleontologist. When I was twelve, I decided I wanted to be a writer. I still haven't outgrown that.

I grew up in Berkeley, California, which is a quirky sort of a place with a ton of wonderful bookstores. My very first job was working in one of those bookstores, and I’ve been a freakishly avid reader for as long as I can remember. Back then, some of the books that had the greatest impact on my life were young adult novels, and now, as an adult, I’ve found my own passion in writing books for teens.

Hannah Jayne Hannah Schwartz lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and writes cozy mysteries, young adult fiction, chick lit, and grocery lists that she never seems to remember to bring to the grocery store. Hannah shares a house with two neurotic, feet-attacking cats and has Kryptonite-like weakness for donuts. Debra Driza is a member of the teen lit blogging groups the Bookanistas and The League of Extraordinary Writers, and a former practicing physical therapist who discovered tormenting her characters was infinitely more enjoyable. These days you can find her at home, adding random colors to her hair and wrangling one husband, two kids, and an assortment of Rhodesian Ridgebacks (most of them naughty).

Join us for an evening with some of your favorite YA authors, as they discuss and sign some of their latest books!

Shannon Messenger graduated from the USC School of Cinematic Arts where she learned--among other things--that she liked watching movies much better than making them. She's studied art, screenwriting, and television production, but realized her real passion was writing for kids and teens. Her middle grade series, KEEPER OF THE LOST CITIES, is published by Simon & Schuster (Aladdin) and her YA series, Let the Sky Fall, is published by Simon Pulse. She lives in Southern California with her husband and an embarrassing number of cats. Find her online at shannonmessenger.com.

Debra Driza is a member of the teen lit blogging group the Bookanistas and a former practicing physical therapist, who discovered tormenting her characters was infinitely more enjoyable. These days you can find her at home in California, adding random colors to her hair and wrangling one husband, two kids, and an assortment of Rhodesian Ridgebacks. MILA 2.0 is her first novel.

Amy Tintera writes novels for young adults. She grew up in Austin, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in journalism. After receiving a masters in film at Emerson College she moved to Los Angeles, where she promptly discovered she didn't enjoy working in the film industry, and went back to her first love, writing. Her debut, Reboot, is out now from HarperCollins/HarperTeen, with the sequel to follow in 2014.

Kasie West, as a stay-at-home mom of four children, three of them girls, ranging in age from twelve to four, hears lots of melodramatic versions of large-than-life events. She graduated with a BA in liberal studies, with a strong focus on linguistics and psychology, from Fresno State University. She lives in Fresno, CA.

About the Authors:

Debra Driza is the newest member of blogging group YA Highway, and a former physical therapist who much prefers torturing characters. She's particularly fond of sweets, adding random colors to her hair, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, and teen TV. Please don't ask her to locate anything in her purse, aka "the black hole of doom." MILA 2.0 is her first novel in a sci-fi thriller trilogy from HarperCollins.

Shannon Messenger has studied art, screenwriting, and television production, but realized her real passion was writing for kids and teens.
