Gary Fincke

Prof Gary Fincke is the head of the Creative Writing Dept at Susquehanna University. It appear's that Prof Fincke can back-up what he teaches with his own writing. I have read other books of poetry by Prof FIncke and my favorites are the poems he writes about his childhood. This seems to be a major topic for many of his poems. I'm not sure if it's because we are fairly close in age but I can relate to many of his childhood experiences. Either way his writing is strong, sharp and inspires thought while maintaining a blue-collar edge. The title poem is wonderful and a good choice as it pulls together an interesting area of his childhood. This wasn't the first book by Prof Fincke that I have read and it will not be the last.… (més)

Gary Fincke is the director of creative writing at Susquehanna University and an accomplished poet. I had the pleasure of hearing Gary read from this book. Likewise, his poem " The Sorrows" was read on Garrison Keilor's radio show The Writer's Almanac. Much of Finke's poetry comes from his youth experiences and growing up in western Pennsylvania steel country. Likewise, his experiences during the Kent State shooting are the basis for many more poems. His poems are honest and direct. Many of his writings I can relate to which makes them appealing. I do very much enjoy "The Sorrows." Finke has written several books of poetry I have read a few and will continue to read the rest.… (més)
