This is a good book which touches on masculinity and the warrior ethos in modern American society. It is flawed in its orientation since it does not disclose that it has a fixed hierarchical ranking of people. Giduck says that Green Berets are the pinnacle of the American production of males with moral grounding and practical skills to do the most difficult jobs the country has to offer. For this reason the Green Berets have the most rigorous training, the best schools and are the standard for continued acquiring of skills. He then calls the other military branches and their own special operations forces brothers to the Green Berets. The other military branches are the next level excellence that America produces. These stand alone as the high water mark for America's place in other countries admiration and emulation. Giduck wants every American to have to serve in the military. Giduck speaks disdainfully about Hollywood and sports role models but then uses quotes from Sylvester Stallone movies and Arnold Schwarzenegger as examples for illustration in the book. to be fair, the book was published in 2007. This book focuses on leadership rather than management. Leadership being involved with achieving goals for people rather harnessing systems of things for profit motive. The book covers family issues and the need to have a commitment to live by a coherent system of moral principle's. There are no stories of military operations (as these are always confidential) but he does gave instances to learn from his miliary training exercises or work related to his civilian job. He does spend a little too much time bizarrely talking about the Russian Spetsnaz whom he befriended during his integrated training with the Russians post-Cold War. It is a fallacy to assume that anything can easily translate from one profession to another and Giduck does this as well. However all business administration books do this although Giduck may not know this is a fallacy of distinct disciplines. Giduck wants all families to be trained to use firearms and martial arts as the coming years will make evident that as societal norms collapse and laws are ignored people and families will have to rely on themselves for protection. This is has proven to be very true thus far. Giduck has great pride in the US armed forces and wants Americans to be equally as proud as he is.
