Adam Gidwitz signs THE GRIMM CONCLUSION Description Once upon a time, fairy tales were grim. Cinderella’s stepsisters got their eyes pecked out by birds. Rumpelstiltskin ripped himself in half. And in a tale called “The Mouse, the Bird, and the Sausage,” a mouse, a bird, and a sausage all talk to each other. Yes, the sausage talks. (Okay, I guess that one’s not that grim…) Those are the real fairy tales. But they have nothing on the story I’m about to tell. This is the darkest fairy tale of all. Also, it is the weirdest. And the bloodiest. It is The Grimmest Tale I have ever heard. And I am sharing it with you. Two children venture through forests, flee kingdoms, face ogres and demons and monsters, and, ultimately, find their way home. Oh yes, and they may die. Just once or twice. That’s right. Fairy tales Are Awesome. About the Author Adam Gidwitz taught in Brooklyn for eight years. Now, he writes full time—which means he writes a couple of hours a day, and lies on his couch staring at the ceiling the rest of the time. As is the case with all of his books, everything in them not only happened in the real fairy tales…it all also happened to him. Really. Adam Gidwitz ~ October 8 Adam Gidwitz became a Hicklebee's favorite and Book of the Year winner with his first book, A Tale Dark & Grimm, a mash-up of Hansel & Gretel meets other tales from the Brothers Grimm. His sequel, In a Glass Grimmly was equally chilling/brilliant/spellbinding. Gidwitz returns to Hiclebee's with The Grimm Conclusion, a third serving of eerie new landscapes and fear-inducing creatures in a story sure to delight and frighten fans old and new. In the final book, Adam’s brilliantly irreverent narrator leads readers through a fresh world of Grimm inspired fairy tales, based on such classics as The Juniper Tree and Cinderella.

Endangered Authors ~ April 24 Readers ages 8 to 13! Here's your opportunity to meet authors E.J. Altbacker, Adam Gidwitz, Charles London and Jacqueline West. Traveling the country on their Endangered Authors game show tour, they are stopping at Hicklebee's to share their tales and give us the latest scoop on their newest books. April 24 @ 3:00 (presentation at 3:30) A two-time Pushcart nominee for poetry, Jacqueline West (www.jacquelinewest.com) came to writing by way of opera (she studied vocal performance) and acting (she worked as an actress at a dinner theatre while earning her degree). The Books of Elsewhere were inspired by a strange old house in Jacqueline’s home town-three floors, cracking paint, sagging porches-that was owned by a professor who created all sorts of odd contraptions. Jacqueline lives with her husband and their dog, Brom Bones (of Sleepy Hollow fame).
C. Alexander London, author of Accidental Adventures, is an award-winning adult nonfiction author under the name Charles London, master SCUBA diver, and a fully licensed children’s librarian. He has watched television in 23 countries, survived an erupting volcano, a hurricane, 4 civil wars, and a mysterious bite on his little toe in the jungles of Thailand.
Adam Gidwitz won the Hicklebee's Book of the Year award for A Tale Dark & Grimm, a fabulously fun and frightening mash-up of several Grimm tales. He is an elementary school teacher in Brooklyn. Though proficient at reading others’ stories aloud, this is his first book. As well as writing the Shark Wars series, E. J. Altbacker is a screenwriter whose credits include work on various television programs including Static Shock, Justice League, Spider-Man, and Extreme Ghostbusters, as well as the upcoming animated Green Lantern. Ernie holds an MFA in screenwriting from the American Film Institute and an undergraduate degree in Marketing from the University of Notre Dame.
