Grant believed she had been reincarnated at least forty times and that her far memory of past lives provided her the base material for her historical novels.

The old english can be a little hard to deal with but overall this book is wonderful. It more or less covers the entire life of the main female character who is destined to be not only a priestess but to rule together with her brother as Pharaoh. As a priestess and a ruler she would be known as a Winged Pharaoh. Her time learning to be a spiritual leader is as interesting as her time spent trying to learn to be a leader of men as well.

I think my favorite thing is that since the book is written from the perspective of Sekhet there are times when what she says contradicts what her brother Neysah remembers. If you've had siblings you know how realistic this moment is. She remembers putting the chisel down calmly after accidentally smashing her finger with it and simply deciding that perhaps learning to chisel isn't for her after all. Her brother remembers her throwing the chisel and throwing a child like tantrum. It adds a lot of subtle humor to different conversations.

I also love all the out of body spiritual moments. I read a lot of fantasy and at times the magic can be overwhelming but in Winged Pharaoh the magic tends to be subtler and much more limited. Visions of armies aren't straight forward rather the person having the vision might have dreams of ants.

This folktale is a retelling of an Egyptian myth that shares of a timid boy who finds his courage by going after a monster that shrinks as he approaches it. I enjoyed this story as it want something that I would normally read. I thought the illustrations were great for culturally diversity as well as depicting beautiful images of forest and jungles. This would be a great book for a read aloud, because the various character allows the read to use variance in their tones and expressions. Also, the meaning of the myth I felt children would be able to relate too, as they may fear something and the more they fear it the bigger it seems, but if you approach your fears that are not as big and bad as they originally seemed.…
