This book is a collection of essays each dealing with a specific theme of the revolutionary period in Louth from 1912-23. Hall, a co-editor, provides a detailed account of the political history of Louth pre and post Rising and the personalities involved. Maguire, the other co-editor, presents an interesting account of Louth's labour history. Rogers gives a typically detailed account of Cumann na mBan in Louth. There are interesting individual chapters on the arts, the railways and the big house by Fearon, Kearney and Young. Johnson presents an excellent account of the civil war in Dundalk while Martin does likewise for Drogheda. Bellew gives an exhaustive account of the locations in the county where those volunteers in the war of Independence and civil war period are buried.… (més)
