Hiroyuki Teshin Hamada studied various martial arts disciplines and cognate fields of Japanese Classical Budo at the age of six under the strict tutelage of his father, Seishin Hamada, Kendo Iaido, Kobudo Hanshi. Dr. Hamada has introduced marital arts training from the Budo aspect to various colleges and universities since 1965 while pursuing academic study in sociology of education and philosophy in the U.S.A. Upon receiving an M.A. and Doctor of Education from the College of Wiliiam and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, he continued developing classical martial arts curricula in the Health and Physical Education Program at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia. He is currently an associate professor in the College of Education and holds a special title of Martial Artist in Residence. He serves as a lifetime chairman of the Virginia, East Coast division of Dai Nippon Butoku-Kai, U.S.A., and also as a director of the international division of this association.
