STORY-LINE WHISPER TO ME BY KENT HAMILTON:

Set in West Texas in 1868, Eliza and Christopher are deliriously happy running the Martin Ranch. Married life agrees with both. The old gang of troublemakers ranch hands are gone and the new ones told Eliza's the owner and boss; do what she says, when she says it.

Adam, new on the ranch, has never failed to break a horse; today's the day he will fail. Not only does he fail to break the horse, but also loses his bet with Susanna. Susanna, visiting her Aunt Waverly, came to the ranch for after Eliza's invisitation. A veterinarian's daughter, she has skill with horses, what we call whispering or horse whisperers today; she offers to teach Adam.

Sparks fly between Adam and Susanna. Unimpressed with her in the beginning, as they work together gentling horses, his admiration for her talent grows. As they grow closer and closer, will a city girl fall for the cowboy rancher? Is trouble brewing on the horizon as the troublemakers are still in town? My romance book reviews of Whisper To Me follows.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:

I found Whisper To Me engaging and enjoyable. Due to the length of short stories and novella, authors can not develop the in-depth characterization and plotting as in a novel. However, Hamilton crafted a short book of 55 pages, filled with action, drama, romance, and a solid complete story-line.

With likeable and believable characters, an intriguing story line, and fast pacing, Hamilton held my attention from the first page to the last. I found Adam a wonderful character; a humble poorly educated man who loved his work. Susanna's the exact opposite, outgoing and unashamed to show her attraction to Adam. They make a fine couple. You know what they say: opposites attract. Their budding love's sweet and clean. Hamilton's characters are well-developed and the pace flows smoothly. All good westerns have a villain; the dastardly Joe is back again in all his evil glory. Joe's malice and hatred for the Martin Ranch and family spills over. Joe's a character you will love to hate, along with all his pals.

I look forward to Hamilton's next book featuring the Martin Ranch. A sweet and clean romance, I would not hesitate to buy this book for my self or a friend.

STORY-LINE HIDING THE TRUTH BY KENT HAMILTON:

In Hiding The Truth Kathy and Paul have settled in Farvale. Kathy did not know Paul had a brother. He kept his existence secret. Thrown out of the army, Daniel's headed to the ranch to live. Paul intends for things to change for his brother. Daniel's a low down good for nothing drunkard, who lies, cheats, and steals. But Paul's determined he'll pull his weight on the ranch or leave. Meanwhile, Kathy's friend, Sarah, wrote asking for help as her husband killed himself; she has a new baby and nowhere to go. Of course, Kathy and Paul also take her into their home. Using Paul's "hid away money", he and Sarah agree to build Sarah a small house on a nearby piece of land.

When Daniel arrives drunk, accompanied of the Sheriff, Paul puts him in the barn to slept it off. The next morning Paul gives Daniel an ultimatum, either work on the ranch or leave. Also, Kathy's holding a secret close to her chest she has not revealed to Paul.

When Sarah arrives, Daniel picks her up and something happened to him he couldn't explain. Working hard on Sarah's cabin and the ranch, Daniel seems to be changing. What has happened to Daniel? What is Sarah's Secret? My romance book reviews of Hiding The Truth follows.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:

Hiding the truth never works as Daniel and Sarah, then Paul and Kathy discovered. This is a story of a second chance for Daniel and hope for his future. Hamilton skillfully matured Daniel after he met Sarah; becoming a changed man. Sarah, with issues of trust, must face these issues head on and decide if she will trust Daniel will be a better man. I felt so sorry for Daniel as he told Sarah about his past; I wanted to cry.

Paul already has his second chance at happiness, unless his behavior sinks the ship. After seeing his sister labor to bring his nephew into the world, Paul has issues with babies and labor. Then the baby's so small, he terrified to hold him; the whole process scares him to death. As Paul loves Kathy so much, I could not believe how he treated her and the hurtful things he said. This book's part of a series and leaves the story with cliff hangers.

Due to the length of short stories and novella, the author can not develop the in-depth characterization and plotting as in a novel. However, I found this story's well crafted with clear and clean writing and well-developed characters. The plots are intriguing and held my interest. I look forward to seeing how all this turns out in the next book.
HIDING THE TRUTH RECOMMENDATION: STARS 4

I gave Hiding The Truth 4 stars for structure, content, composition, pace, and character development. Suitable for anyone who loves clean romances from young teen to seniors.

For readers who do not read/buy romances written by men: after reading several of Hamilton's books, it amazed me they were authored by a man. In the past I did not buy romances written by men; I had a preconceived prejudice that the male species could not possibly create a good romance. Well, let me state, Hamilton changed my view-point and my buying habits; Hamilton creates very good romances filled with love, angst, and emotion.

Belle was married to a horrible, thieving man who was killed, leaving her pregnant and with 2 children. When the sheriff accused her of helping her late husband rob a stagecoach, she ran so she wouldn't be arrested. She went to her parents but knew she would bring trouble to them by being there so she left, leaving her children with them. She then went to the Starr clan hoping they would give her a place to stay. They were feared by everyone but were the only ones she knew of that had been close to her husband. Once there, Belle had to prove her worth before they would agree she could stay with them. She wasn't liked or wanted by the tribe, except by Sam. He had known Belle's husband and what a despicable man he had been. He was also very attracted to Belle.

I really liked this historical romance. Life was hard enough in the late 1800s but for a pregnant woman alone with 2 children, it was even harder. This story showed how far a mother would go to give her children a good life. There weren't many options for women at that time. But Belle swallowed her pride and asked for help from her parents even though she knew they didn't think much of her late husband. Then she went on to the Starr clan and stayed with them even when she knew she wasn't wanted.

I want to thank the author for providing this book for review consideration. It gave such a different look at life in the old west. Kent HamiIlton is a very illustrative writer making it easy to picture the events taking place with these characters. Belle was an amazing, strong woman that I truly admired. And Sam was a wonderful man who was there for Belle when she needed him. I liked the way he looked out for her and spoke to the clan on her behalf so they wouldn't send her away. The romance that grew between this couple had me rooting for them.

I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend this novel. I must say, the ending sure made me want to grab the next book.

I liked this quick historical romance. Paul and Kathy have been married for a year but he never told her he had a brother named Daniel. Paul was forced to tell her when he learned his brother was coming to stay with them. Secrets like that are not good for a marriage. Then they invite Kathy's friend, Sarah, and her baby to stay with them, too, when she is left alone after her husband died.

Much to everyone's surprise, Daniel and Sarah are attracted to each other. Since Daniel was only interested in himself, being a drinker, gambler, and carouser much like Sarah's husband had been, they didn't expect to be drawn to each other.

I enjoyed this story and getting an idea of what it was like to live in those times. After reading this book, I realized it was part of a series. There was a brief mention of Kathy's secret that she had shared which must have been in Book 1. Then this story left us wondering about one of the relationships which were very frustrating. Anyway, I liked this story but must say that it would probably be better to read the entire series in order.
