Sobre l'autor

Greg Harvey is a prolific author of personal computing books that are highly informative, yet entertaining and easy to understand. Harvey earned a B.A. in classics and American history from the University of Illinois in Urbana in 1970. He moved to San Francisco the following year and worked as a mostra'n més draftsman on civil engineering projects for the next 10 years Harvey became interested in the growing computer field in the early 1980s. While teaching college computer classes at Golden Gate University, he wrote his first books, WordPerfect Desktop Companion (1987) and WordPerfect Instant Reference (1988). Since then, he has written, in his own words, "tons of books." These include Lotus 1-2-3 Instant Reference (1989), Encyclopedia Lotus 1-2-3 (1991), and WordPerfect 6 for Windows Quickstart (1993). Since 1993, Harvey has written exclusively for Dummies Press of IDG Books, for whom he has turned out several personal computing classics, such as 1-2-3 for Dummies (1993), DOS for Dummies (third edition, 1998), and Excel 2000 for Windows for Dummies (1998). basic information ... the book doesn't feel much different than a 2010 or 2007 version. Storing files in the cloud is the primary change.

This handy pocket guide proved its use the day I picked it up! If you don't have the time for classes and are unlikely to to read the full-size 400 page guide, this works just fine. A down and dirty quick guide for the basic Excel user that lets you improve your efficiency in use of this software and of your work day.

The best impulse check-out counter buy I've made! My husband is still thanking me for making his life easier and now... Yes, I scored major brownie points with this one... he's asked me out to dinner in his eternal gratitude! Yeah, baby!… (més)

This is a big, heavy book. It is a reference book, not a handbook. Fortunately, you can usually find what you're looking for without consulting the index. The font size used in the three separate indexes (Command, Function, and Topic) are too tiny for my tired old eyes, anyway.

The book is divided into eight parts: (1) Preliminary Considerations, (2) Spreadsheet Commands, (3) Spreadsheet Formulas and Functions, (4) Database Management, (5) Creating and Using Graphics, (6) Printing and Plotting, (7) Macros and the Macro Command Language, and (8) Using Lotus 1-2-3 with Other Programs.

The scope of the book is broad. It covers all aspects of using Lotus 1-2-3, both Release 1A and Release 2.

The minimum hardware and software requirements for running Lotus 1-2-3 Release 2 are: 256K RAM, DOS 2.x or higher, and 8087 or 80287 CPU. The maximum number of spreadsheet cells is 2 million. The maximum column width is 240 bytes. The maximum database size is 256 fields and 8191 records.

As of October 2008, I am still a satisfied user of Lotus 1-2-3 for DOS, Release 2.3. It works just fine on my Windows XP machine in a DOS emulation window. I can share spreadsheets with my decrepit, ten-year-old laptop running Windows 98SE.
