Ginny’s Capture is outside of my usual reading fare, but I wanted to stretch my horizons and see if I could get past my squeamishness over zombies.

What I found is that I didn’t get it. I didn’t understand this story. I felt like I was dropped right into the middle of the action with characters that had a past history from a previous book that I missed reading. And then there was all this planning and staking out surrounding zombies and coffins and I don’t know what else. I was completely lost. I get that Deidre and Ginny had been previous lovers and are supposed to be mates but other than that, I just didn't get it.

The sex was good, but I was so confused by everything else that I just couldn’t enjoy the book, so I can only give this book two stars.

Note: I received a copy of this book in return for an HONEST review.

Overall, "A Matter of Fate" is a very good fantasy novel, based in magic, with a splash of romance & shifters for good measure. As a matter of fact, with the emphasis on the fantasy portion, even though this is marketed as a "Crimson Romance", I believe that a male reader would find enjoyment in this book. The romance is secondary to the story and actually seems a bit forced. I had to reread a few pages because I thought I had missed something - the "start" of the romance seemed abrupt.

I think that my expectations of this book were different than what I read. I was expecting a supernatural themed romance; however, the book reads more like a fantasy with heavy emphasis on the mythology of the setting. I found myself feeling like a Warder of the book - trying to find the different runes, squiggles & threads in order to figure out what is connected to what. When starting the book I felt like I had been plunked into a series and was seriously lacking the backstory that was needed to understand it.

If you are looking to find a "shifter romance" that could be a beach read, this is not it. If you would like to read a "thinking girl's" magical fantasy (think "Harry Potter") - then drop everything & start reading -- then share with your husband, too!
