ABOUT THE AUTHORS: Stephen Cramer is the author of From the Hip: A Concise History of Hip Hop (in Sonnets). Cramer’s first book of poems, Shiva’s Drum, was selected by Grace Schulman for the National Poetry Series and published in 2004. His second, Tongue & Groove, was published by University of Illinois Press in 2007. His work has appeared in journals such as The American Poetry Review, African American Review, The Yale Review, Harvard Review, Green Mountains Review, and Hayden’s Ferry Review. He teaches writing and literature at the University of Vermont and lives with his wife and daughter in Burlington.
Laban Carrick Hill is the author of When the Beat Was Born: DJ Kool Herc and the Creation of Hip Hop, America Dreaming: How Youth Changed America in the 60s, Harlem Stomp!: A Cultural History of the Harlem Renaissance, which was a National Book Award finalist, and Dave the Potter, a Caldecott Honor book, illustrated by Bryan Collier. He lives in Burlington, Vermont.
