I liked this book, but parts of it drag on or are very dry. The story is interesting and the storytelling is unique. I will read the next book in the series but I’d really like to read something else by the author first.

This book is like “a week in the life of a necromancer” rather than a story with a set beginning, middle, and ending. Because of that, it is slightly anti-climactic, but only because it carries the same energy throughout the book.

Rusalka is entirely a water world, colonized by humans hoping to extract valuable heavy metals from the deeps. Katya is a newly licensed submarine pilot, working her first job for her Uncle. They are sunk by a mysterious monster then rescued by the military.
It is a fast-moving story that mostly takes place under water. giving this a post-war thriller feeling.

I can't say anything without being a spoiler. Writing and characters are good, but the real bomb is the plot. Thoroughly intrigued and confused at the same time. Excellent!

Hard boiled noir visits Cthulhu mythos with some surprises. Ending opens up for an interesting series. Mind bender here we come.
