Libby Howard

This is a short, fast read about the new owner of campground, where a dead body is found. The bulk of the book covers the preparations for the campground opening after the protagonist moves to a new town with her Mom & dog. The mystery is a not a major part of the story, until the end. The writing is a little repetitive at times. Overall, this is a lite, entertaining story with likeable characters… a pleasant diversion.

Kay Carerra, a recently widowed skip-tracer, gets involved in a missing person case. To complicate things, she's just taken on a lodger - a judge and his teenage children - to help pay her mortgage.

This cosy mystery was an enjoyable quick read. The story is told in first person. I found Kay a sympathetic and engaging character without being neurotic or over-dramatic (something that puts me off many cosies). The clues were decently presented and fitted together well with the solution. The ghostly element was quite small and pretty much served to point her in the direction of clues, without being overdone. (And I much prefer a helpful ghost to the sleuth just happening to guess where to look!) The characters were fun and distinctive without becoming caricatures, and I look forward to meeting them again in future books.… (més)
