There aren't a lot of English-language options out there for potential students of Ukrainian, but this is one solid and useful textbook. Beginning students without previous exposure to Slavic languages might find it challenging, as it doesn't mess around with crutches like transliterating the Cyrillic throughout the initial chapters. But it's one of the rare works that can be used both by complete beginners and students who already know Russian-- who blow through the first few chapters with the exception of some vocabulary, but find plenty of useful material later on.

The book has plenty of dialogues, exercises, readings, and vocabulary to supplement the grammar, and the student is certainly not shortchanged on practice. After just one quarter with this book, another fluent (non-native) speaker of Russian and I were able to read and discuss serious scholarly texts in Ukrainian. Highly recommended.
