A short and humorous rendition of what it is like to live with OCD. The book does not appear to offer any therapeutic remedies but the descriptions certainly ring true if you live with an OCD’ er which I do.

A day with OCD (not that I have it)

by Helen Hurst

I thought this book gave a little incite into what a person dealing with OCD goes through in a typical day. I have a daughter with OCD and when I seen this book being offered for review through LibraryThing I requested it right away. I have read some literature and looked at quite a few websites on OCD but have not ever read a personal account from someone living with it.

I actually would like to read more and am interested in why and how someone becomes "addicted" to doing such ritualistic behaviours. So if you are looking for an in depth account this is not it. This is a very short book on one woman's typical day with OCD.

Not a bad book. I agree with one of the other reviewers that it was a bit choppy, but not in a way that made it difficult for me to continue reading. It was interesting to learn about OCD from the author's perspective.I have a child that also has OCD, and am sometimes baffled by some of the things that he does, especially since he is not at the point where he can explain what is going on inside his mind and how I can help him work through some of his obsessive thoughts. Being able to read about an adult's experience is helpful.… (més)

This is a well-written book with enough facts yet written in an interesting way. One is eager to see how the author manages her life while living with OCD. We are also told how it started and how she is now in its clutches. The author manages to imbibe in us empathy for sufferers of this condition.
