Flora and the Flamingo de Molly Idle
This book had a cute idea of using the flaps at the beginning but then I wasn't quite sure why they suddenly stopped for the other half of the book. The simplicity of the book is beautiful with just the two characters on each spread, a white background for most of the story. Of course this is one with no words, yet evokes a sense of fun and playfulness. Overall though, I wasn't too impressed with Flora and the Flamingo. While the simplicity of the artwork brings a nice aesthetic, I don't sense much of a story from the interaction of the two characters present. It was also very short, which is probably a factor of it not having much of a storyline.… (més)
A beautiful book (Molly Idle is a favorite) about the legacy of storytelling and how it evolves and changes. And how we carry it with us even when someone has moved on.
Books don't often make me cry, but this one definitely had me in tears by the end. Beautiful, both in story and in art.
Soft and poignant. Did NOT go over well with my K/1st graders in our Mock Caldecott, but perhaps they're not the target audience. A lovely intergenerational friendship in which the two share memories with and of each other.
